Our Alliances

Edge for Smart Secondary Substation (E4S) Alliance is a community driving standards-based, open, interoperable, and secure architecture for the utilities.

Increased demand for electricity puts a huge stress on power grid infrastructure, with the electrification of transportation, power storage, and requirements to maximize the utilization of renewables at the edge of the grid among the critical functions that the grid will be called upon to support.

Adaptive “smart” grid control is crucial to enable operators to manage demand for power and reliability across the board. To deliver electricity reliably, we need to build the next-generation smart grid. The industry has created the Edge for Smart Secondary Substations (E4S) Alliance accelerates the creation of standards-based flexible, manageable, and interoperable platforms.

VPAC Alliance is Driving standards-based, open, interoperable, and secure software-defined architecture to host protection, automation, and control solutions for power system substations. The global move to a sustainable energy infrastructure is placing stress on the power grid as weather-dependent renewable energy sources are deployed at all layers. At the same time, new loads are being added to the grid, dramatically increasing our dependence on electricity. Transportation is switching from liquid petroleum to electric batteries, heating and cooking systems are being electrified, and our appetite for computing and communications systems continues to grow. A new paradigm of adaptive, resilient, secure, and intelligent grid control enables operators to manage these increasingly bi-directional and highly dynamic-evolving power systems. To address the industry challenges, technology leaders created the Virtual Protection Automation and Control (vPAC) Alliance call for standards for flexible, manageable, and interoperable platforms. Using software-defined technologies and virtualized versions of standard solutions, industry participants can then build out the adaptive, intelligent tools and algorithms needed for the grid of the future.

450 MHz Alliance is an industry association representing stakeholders in the 450 MHz spectrum.

The members of the alliance include wireless carriers, equipment manufacturers, and companies in various vertical markets for machine-to-machine communication.

The alliance is committed to promoting the potential of the 450 MHz spectrum and helping its members achieve their objectives more effectively.

Advantech, a global leader in Industrial IoT and Intelligent Systems, will showcase its latest advancements in edge computing for artificial intelligence, digital transformation, virtualization, and robotics/AGV/AMR applications at SPS 2023 (Hall 7, booth 370) from the 14th to 16th of November. Underlined by the motto "Enabling an Intelligent and Sustainable Planet", Advantech will display a wide range of solutions that enable OEMs and system integrators to develop sustainable and efficient smart manufacturing environments.

Rick de Vries, IIoT Sales Director Central Europe, said: “At SPS Germany 2023, we will demonstrate the power of real-time virtualization and how to achieve the highest levels of cyber security. We will also display our latest AI implementation, which has been designed to provide valuable insight and modeling capabilities for situational awareness, predictive maintenance and IoT gateway solutions, for connecting to management clouds.” Additionally, Rick said, “We want to provide SPS visitors with the opportunity to interact and explore technologies that will define the future, while always keeping human beings at the forefront, in the perspective of enabling a smart and sustainable society.”

Jash Bansidhar, Managing Director of Advantech Europe, added: "Projects involving the use of IIoT are being implemented on an increasing scale today. The Industrial Internet of Things has definitely ceased to be just a concept and has become a real foundation for the operation of many manufacturing companies. The benefits in terms of process transparency, i.e. the possibility of their monitoring and optimization, are obvious. As a result, there is an increasing need for integrators and providers of IIoT technologies. From our perspective, this means development into local partner networks. Advantech's business model assumes that we offer our solutions to individual markets through local partners. The development of our company's ecosystem is an important element of its strategy. Moreover, the progressing globalization makes industries look for global support services - both in terms of assessing the possibility of using technology and its implementation and further maintenance. Advantech, as a global company with many years of experience, is ready to provide such support.”

At the booth, visitors can learn more through interactive demos and speak to Advantech’s specialist team, exploring the following applications and areas:

  • Artificial Intelligence: Among the solutions at the booth are data-driven and AI-enabled use cases that will improve manufacturing operations with advanced digital simulations, autonomous factory operations, digital quality management, and strategic asset management.
  • Digital transformation: Manufacturing in the past has focused on lean and just-in-time production processes, emphasizing cost reduction, waste elimination, and increased efficiency of the entire organization through customer demand-pulling processes. Nowadays, digital technology provides fundamental value that presents commercial value through the immediacy and accuracy of information — driving rapid responses and decision-making.
  • Virtualization: Virtualization is a method that enables a computer to share its hardware resources with numerous digitally separated environments. Each virtualized environment uses its own set of resources, such as memory, computing power, and storage. This area will focus on tools for virtualized environments with Advantech’s powerful solutions.
  • AGV/AMR/Robotics: This area will include the latest solutions for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) by providing robot manufacturers and integrators access to both cutting-edge industrial computing technology and a powerful software platform for building, deploying, and running intelligent robots.
  • Technology area: At this final technology focus area, Advantech will showcase its software and tools, detailing how the company can speed up the development process, with its show team available to answer any questions and provide useful insight.
