Choosing the Best Industrial
Wireless Network for
the 5G Era
Facing the 5G era, most of us would like to know if we should to invest on 5G at the current stage, or if there are other wireless technologies indeed more suitable for our business. To answer that question, a basic understanding of all major wireless technologies is essential before making any investment decisions.
What is 5G?
5G is the fifth generation of wireless technology. It will deliver higher transmission speeds, lower latency, and accommodate more devices to meet growing demands for mass IoT deployment. When compared with LTE connectivity, 5G transmits 20x faster with only 10 ms latency. There are 3 features that 5G brings to our world: 1. high bandwidth, 2. low latency, and 3. high device capacity.
High Bandwidth
5G is a recent wireless technology that delivers faster transmission speeds via its high bandwidth capacity. Applications with intensive transmission needs, like HD video streaming, can take advantage of 5G.
Low Latency
Latency is the period of time required for data to travel between destinations. Low latency enables real-time processing, response, and management in automotive or intelligent transportation systems.
Do I Need 5G?
With the growing prominence of 5G, managers are deciding whether to invest in 5G, and seeking suitable wireless technology for their businesses. As previously mentioned, 5G provides high-speed real-time network services for a plethora of devices simultaneously. Therefore, 5G suits applications that involve time-sensitive data or numerous connected devices. LTE, Wi-Fi or LoRaWAN and NB-IoT will remain suitable for smaller businesses that require interval data transmission.
